tastedaily-header-13mar26 (1)By the numbers, certain cultures in the world are just healthier. And most of those cultures live by the ocean.Like we needed another reason to move to the beach? In the book Japanese Women Do Not Get Fat or Old, Naomi Moriyama details several secrets of the Japanese diet. For instance, in Japan "breakfast is powered by miso soup."Many Japanese start their day with a warm bowl of miso soup and have it again with each meal. It is known to stimulate digestion and energize the body.Other key foods include, fish, soy, rice, vegetables, and fruit. Rice takes the place of bread and desserts are teeny-tiny.Tea is also a big part of this lifestyle - green tea specifically.shutterstock_50192215

Here's a traditional Japanese dinner to try tonight:
  • Grilled fish
  • Rice (brown rice is obviously the better choice here)
  • Veggies - steamed (or sautéed in low-sodium broth, if you don't want the calories from oil)
  • Miso soup (ideally low-sodium)
  • Fruit for dessert
  • Green tea
