When the calendar flips from summer to fall, it marks the return of three long-awaited things: cozy scarves, new episodes of your favorite TV shows and, of course, apple pie.But this season, we're switching up the apple pie and making it healthier, lighter, and breakfast-appropriate (but still rich and decadent enough for dessert!).Enter, The Apple Pie Smoothie:• 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk• 1 apple, chopped• 1 tbsp ground flaxseed• 1 tsp cinnamon• 1/2 tsp vanilla extract• 1 tbsp almond butter• Optional: 1 big handful of spinachToss all of the ingredients together in a blender, blend until smooth, and serve over ice.The Low-Down on Flaxseed:• It’s packed with fiber• Loaded with omega-3 fatty acids (aka the good fats)• Rich in antioxidantsFlaxseed has also been shown to lower cholesterol & reduce the risk of breast cancer.
